Among my Italian lessons, my leisurely walks and weekend field trips, there are plenty of ways to enjoy my time here in Rome especially with my group of friends from Clidante…whether it be just for the day or a few hours in the afternoon. Here is my personal description of some of my favorites from the past few weeks.
# 1: Pasta Night
This was my real first “pasta night” since learning how to make at home fresh pasta, thanks to a funny and useful cooking class arranged by my Italian school. I was able to make a yummy “pasta alla carbonara” and a delicious “pasta all’amatriciana”! Everyone loved helping out from making the dough to cooking the pasta “al dente”. I’m already organizing another fantastic evening at my place with friends because, for us, our favorite part is tasting all the different dishes I learned to cook: pasta alla bolognese, butter with sage, garlic and oil, lasagna … are you free next Friday?
#2: A Night at the Auditorium
Last Tuesday night, I went to see the orchestra and chorus of Santa Cecilia at the Auditorium in Rome: the concert was Rachmaninoff n.3. The Auditorium was designed in the 90’s by Renzo Piano, a famous Italian architect and this institution is a true “culture factory”. Between the beautiful setting and the peaceful and heartbreaking music, it was an extremely relaxing way to spend the evening. It was also fun to dress up, take a break from classes and test my real level of Italian language! I could understand most of the words and phrases I heard. It made me feel proud of myself!
#3: Calcio!
On Sunday afternoon, Greta, Todd, Jonathan, and I all went to see Rome’s soccer team play against Naples. The stadium was crowded with enthusiastic fans, colorful waving flags, and lots of singing. I was stunned and excited: the situation was thrilling and Rome won the game!
