Studying in Rome, gives the great opportunity not only to get to know very closely the incredible history and tradition of this beautiful city, but it also means having the opportunity to immerse yourself even more in Italian culture. Made of art, myths, architecture and even culinary tradition. So if you are in Rome, you can without a shadow of a doubt taste, for example, one of perhaps the most famous Italian desserts in the world: Tiramisu.

In the Capital, you can enjoy this exquisite spoon dessert at Pompi‘s, a pastry bar renowned for producing one of the best Tiramisu in town. But if you have chef skills and enjoy cooking, then why not try making this delicious dessert yourself? Here is the recipe below, with the amounts for the ingredients and the steps for making it.

Let’s first go over almost are ingredients:

  • 500 g fresh Mascarpone from the fridge
  • 100 g sugar
  • 300 g of coffee (made with a mocha if possible)
  • 300 g Savoiardi cookies
  • 4 medium eggs, very fresh

Here’s how to make your perfect Tiramisu:

First, separate the yolks from the egg whites well, and using electric whips, whip the yolks by pouring in half the sugar (about 50 g). Once you have a smooth, clear and frothy cream, add the cold mascarpone a little at a time. Keep aside the compact cream that will be formed. Then move on to the egg whites, which will have to be whipped until stiff (again with the whips that must have been washed perfectly), adding the remaining sugar a little at a time. Once stiffly whipped, using a spoon or a kitchen spatula, add them slowly and carefully to the previously obtained mascarpone cream, mixing slowly from the bottom to the top. At this point you can move on to the composition of the Tiramisu: in an oven dish create a layer of ladyfingers lightly soaked in coffee – first on one side then the other – and then pour a layer of cream on top. You can repeat the same operation (layer of coffee-soaked ladyfingers and then cream), until you run out of ingredients. Finally, a nice dusting of bitter cocoa powder and…voila!

Your tasty Tiramisu, a typical Italian dessert, is ready!
