How many people speak Italian?

There are approximately 66 million people who speak Italian all over the world: 63 million speak Italian as first language, instead 3 million speak Italian as second language. Italian language: where is it spoken?
The first country for the number of people who speak Italian is Italy, but this language is spoken also in other European countries. Overall in Europe there are 64 million people who speak Italian as first language, but to these we have to add those who speak Italian as second language.
Italian is the official language of the Republic of San Marino with its 25.000 speakers, but it is spoken also in some areas of Switzerland (666.000 speakers), Slovenia, Croatia, Vatican City, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Belgium, Malta, Germany, Luxembourg, France, Liechtenstein and Romania.
Italian is spoken in non-European countries too, for example in the U.S. there are about 709.000 people who speak Italian according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Argentina has 1.5 million people speaking Italian and this makes Italian the second most-spoken language of the country after Spanish. In Venezuela there are about 200.000 citizens who speak Italian, instead in Brazil the Italian speakers are about 50.000.
As for Africa, Italian language is spoken by a minority of people, however there are citizens who can understand Italian and that are able to make themselves understood using some Italian words and the simplest verbs of this language.
